Dekiln

Dekiln (formerly DeakinBio) is creating the world's most sustainable tile. With their pioneering BioSintering® technology, they create tiles that have over 95% recycled content - without the need for traditional kiln firing. The result is a low-carbon, high-performance material that looks as good as it performs, cutting emissions by up to 94%. By designing a process that works seamlessly with existing manufacturing processes, Dekiln makes it simple for the ceramics industry to scale sustainability without compromise.

Goals

Design and develop a professional website, name and visual identity to showcase Dekiln’s pioneering approach to sustainable ceramics.

Effectively communicate Dekiln’s value proposition to tile manufacturers, architects, and designers.

Establish Dekiln as the partner of choice for sustainable tile innovation, supporting their transition from R&D to commercialisation.

Approach

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Business-centric design

Our team combined their business and design backgrounds to deliver a website that doesn't just 'look good', but also matches the buyer's journey and delivers business objectives.

Stanford Guidelines for Web Credibility

We used the Stanford Guidelines for Web Credibility, which were developed by the Stanford University Persuasive Technology Lab. They helped ensure the site effectively communicates the company and solution.

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

We made sure that the website followed SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) best practices to ensure it can be crawled and indexed by search engines (e.g. Google or Bing). We aimed to design it in a way that takes into account the relevant ranking criteria of search engines to support search engine positioning.

Copywriting

Using the key messages from our communications strategy, our team crafted post captions. We ensured the tone remained balanced, informative, accessible and free from unnecessary overhype.

Feedback-driven process

During each stage of the process, the client was be able to share feedback. This way, we ensured that the work progressed in a way that was best for the client.

Mobile responsiveness

The website was created to be responsive. Its contents scale to fit the screen size. This ensures they look good and work well on all devices, including smartphones and tablets.

Onboarding & Site Handover

Following the website launch, we onboarded the team members and equipped them with the ability to modify the site. This included adding articles and publications, editing text, or making other minor modifications.

Scalability

We created the website using 'building blocks' that make it easy to modify, restructure, and expand. This way, the website can scale alongside the company's growth.

Discovery and Development

Dekiln’s small team lacked the time and expertise to develop a marketing strategy, visual assets and a professional website. Their website was basic and their messaging lacked clarity and focus. Their original identity as Deakin Bio reflected their roots in research and development, but it did not effectively capture their commercial ambitions or the strength of their product offering.

We worked closely with the team to evolve the brand into a modern, professional identity that could resonate with industry partners and investors. Through dedicated discovery meetings and iterative design, we developed a name, visual identity, website and messaging strategy that highlighted Dekiln’s innovation while making their story clear and compelling. Flexibility was key - the new brand needed to support both immediate market entry and long-term commercial adoption. Our approach ensured Dekiln developed a strong, credible online presence, positioning them as a serious player in sustainable ceramics.

Naming and messaging

We transformed DeakinBio into Dekiln - a concise name that better reflects the company’s innovative BioSintering® technology and sustainable mission. We crafted messaging to balance technical credibility with clear, engaging storytelling, providing a solid foundation to build trust and drive adoption among tile manufacturers, architects, and designers - identified as the key stakeholders crucial to scaling Dekiln’s solution.

Visual identity

Our design approach modernised Dekiln’s brand with a sleek, professional aesthetic that aligns with their pioneering technology and commercial ambitions. The visual identity emphasises simplicity, innovation, and sustainability, effectively positioning Dekiln as an established presence in the sustainable ceramics ecosystem.

Website Development

With the new brand established, we created a website tailored to Dekiln’s key audiences. Dedicated pages clearly explain the BioSintering® process while highlighting both the industry’s challenges and Dekiln’s strong climate credentials. The site’s clean, modern design strikes a balance between technical depth and accessibility, enhanced by interactive elements that engage users and reinforce Dekiln’s commercial goals. Optimised for speed, mobile use, and SEO, the website project also included analytics setup and a comprehensive handover to empower the team to manage content independently. The result is a striking online presence that showcases Dekiln’s leadership in net-zero ceramics and positions them as a trusted, forward-thinking partner for manufacturers, architects, and designers.

Before Adopter

After Adopter

In the client's words

Dr Aled Roberts

Founder & CEO

"We worked with Adopter on a complete rebrand and new website to reflect Dekiln’s evolution and help position us for commercial growth. Working with Adopter was a genuinely collaborative and enjoyable experience. The team was friendly, professional, and brought great energy to the process - especially on the design side, where we were all blown away by the final outcome.

What stood out most was the two-way nature of the partnership. It never felt like a ‘take it or leave it’ agency relationship - there were real conversations, questions, and thoughtful pushback that helped us make better decisions. The team listened, gave us clear choices, and moved things along with momentum from start to finish.

Adopter’s team was responsive, easy to work with, and flexible throughout, from the weekly check-ins to the on-site support for our photoshoot. The fact they were willing to visit us in person and take the time to walk us through the process really made a difference. That kind of flexibility and hands-on support is hard to find with other suppliers. It felt like they were fully invested in our success from the start. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others."
