The UK Green-tech Accelerators and Incubators Map

v1.0

About the map

With extreme heat waves across Europe, severe droughts in the horn of Africa and China and devastating floods in Pakistan - the impact of climate change in 2022 was terrifyingly apparent.

We must use technology to innovate rapidly and meet this systemic threat.

Since 2010 the global number of green technology companies tackling the climate crisis has quadrupled1.

Looking at carbon alone, by 2050, the emissions reduction potential of climate tech companies could reach 599,000 million metric tonnes of CO2 per year. That’s equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 708 billion acres of forest2.

From construction to finance, environmental technologies are working to develop and scale the solutions that we need to achieve a net zero and nature positive future.

Doubling the amount of climate tech investment last year, the UK is well positioned to catalyse this growth. And alongside the UK’s host of rapidly emerging solutions, there is a growing support ecosystem.

The UK GreenTech Accelerators & Incubators Map is an accessible resource for the innovators and founders leading the fight against climate change.

The map highlights the support available to scale these solutions and increase their impact in one place for the first time.

The accelerator landscape in the UK is quickly expanding and developing with the green technology companies they support. We want this map to be an ongoing resource for the ecosystem and for this version 1.0 map to catalyse further feedback, ideas and additions.

The inputs from the community will guide us as we prepare an interactive version of the map.

Projects currently being undertaken:

  • Decarbonization of Low TemperAture Process Heat Industry, DELTA PHI
  • To reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with low-temperature process heat generation and meet UK targets, the project authors propose a new approach. In their method, heat is more effectively used within the industrial process and/or exported to meet heat demands in the neighbouring area. This allows significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions per unit industrial production to be achieved and potentially provide an additional revenue source. Ulster will develop high-temperature heat pumps.
  • Heat Pump Fully Integrated with Thermochemical Store (HP-FITS)
  • The concept is to store heat at the consumer's (domestic or commercial) heat pump so that the heat pump can operate when most advantageous to the system, i.e. when there is surplus renewable electricity (predominantly wind and PV).
  • Low Temperature Heat Recovery and Distribution Network Technologies (Lo-NET)
  • The project aims at integrating low-temperature (LT) networks with heat pump technologies and thermal storage to maximise waste and ambient heat utilisation.
